Since I'm an iPod user and open minded towards new technologies, I was looking forward the Zune "phenomena." I don't mind changing my MP3 player to something better. But, to this day I still get a shock at the "clumsiness" from some of the high-tech companies and I'm baffled as to why (?) they don't get it right the first time. Did Apple hire all the imaginative engineers on the planet???
The success of Apple in the MP3 market is not just the iPod. But it's the combination of iPod and iTunes that makes it so good.
I know that iPod has certain limitations, and I can think of at least 1000 new ways in making a new MP3 player that will smoke the iPod. But since Sony, Samsung and Microsoft live in their own bubble, for the time being I'll stick to iPod.
I'm patient and still waiting for something that will knock my socks off.

Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi prevailed by one vote Wednesday in his bid to clinch the No. 2 spot in next year's Senate GOP leadership.

Lott beat out Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee for the job of minority whip by a vote of 25-24, according to his press secretary, Susan Irby. Circumcision and breastfeeding complications - a connection?

My wife and I were completely fascinated by this article from Mothering online. It states that there is over twenty years of documentation proving the connection between circumcised infant boys and trouble with breastfeeding them, basically because the boys become unresponsive.

Now, I know this is probably not everyone's experience (and I am sure you'll all be telling me this in your comments!), but my wife and I thought about all of the baby boys and breastfeeding mothers that we know. We and one other family we know did not circumcise our sons, and we are the only two families we know who had success breastfeeding, in that latch and supply were never a problem. Since we know a lot of families who recently had boys, this was an easy comparison for us. All the other families were either unable to breastfeed at all because their babies would not latch (of course, the argument could be made that they didn't get enough support to stick with the breastfeeding) or they needed to supplement with formula, because their baby's suck response was so weak that the mothers could not produce enough milk. Now I know there could be plenty of other contributing factors to these conditions, but in light of this new information to us, we found it very interesting.

Doula

Doulas. It depends on your paradigm whether or not you welcome the presence of a hired birth assistant at your baby's debut. My wife and I found our doula indispensable -- a professional birth companion to gently guide us through unknown territory with strength and surety.

Night doulas seem a different story to me, though. Trust me, if anyone could have used a night doula, you are looking at the model family; wife with severe mastitis (we are talking 103 degree fever and bedrest) off and on for the first six weeks of Owen's life, Owen with his bellyaches; and did I mention a 36-hour natural labor? We were all more than tired could describe, but never once did we consider turning over the care of Owen to hired help. It may have been difficult, but in the end we learned more about Owen each moment we spent with him and it made it all the easier to meet his needs as we grew together as a family.

Huge

The place is huge, especially compared to the small spaces I've been living in for the past two years. With the finished basement, it's over 2,300 square feet. And, it's got a nice sized patio. The kids get their own bedrooms. The playground and pool are two buildings down, just around the corner. Close enough to be terribly convenient, but not close enough that all the kids and swimmers will annoy me. It's 15-20 minutes from work, and 5 minutes from the kids school. The homeowner's association takes care of all the outside stuff - snow shoveling, grass, building maintenance, etc. - all that stuff that was beyond me in the house.

Movie review: 'Jackass: Number Two'

Quite honestly, I don't know what to say about "Jackass: Number Two." What is there to say, after all, about a 95-minute foray into feces, intestinal gas, horse semen and a beer funnel inserted into a body cavity that's quite obviously not someone's mouth? (The half star you see here is for creativity, although one could persuasively argue there is nothing new under the "Jackass" sun; most of these themes were pretty thoroughly examined in the original movie, circa 2002.)

What I can report about Johnny Knoxville's sophomore (I'd call it sophomoric, but that would be an insult to sophomoric movies everywhere) outing with the "Jackass" crew: All but one cast member returned, and you'll spend the entire film wondering why.

Knoxville is joined by his usual band of thick-skulled morons, including Bam Margera, whose poor parents seem to have been sucked (again) into this nightmare, Steve-O and Steve England. These eight or so merrymakers join Knoxville in stunts designed not only to break teeth, bones and the human spirit but also to activate gag reflexes--cameramen are seen vomiting, as are sound guys and, with surprising frequency, the stars themselves. I myself experienced dangerous nausea levels for three or four hours after the movie ended. Seriously.

From its opening sequence (Knoxville and boys running through a suburban set neighborhood being chased by angry bulls) to the closing, bizarre homage to 1930s musicals, the movie never deviates from its sole purpose: making the audience wish it was deaf, blind or, even better, not seeing this movie.

There's no plot here; like the MTV show that spawned it, this movie is just a progression of increasingly disgusting and/or dangerous stunts. Blood is drawn, vomit spewed and effluvium drips into view. Some of the tamer segments involve cast members strapping themselves onto various propulsion devices in hopes of crossing large bodies of water. Needless to say, the devices almost always blow up, and the cast member is thrown from said device and incurs various head traumas. All of this is met with unbridled hilarity by the rest of the guys, who are usually seen standing around giving each other high fives and screaming with laughter.

Knoxville and his crew operate with knowing smirks on their faces, which makes them both more annoying and less susceptible to critics who might question their intelligence, human decency or both. "Yeah," they seem to be saying, shaking their heads in mock dismay, "so we're acting like idiots. Look at the title of the movie, people. What did you think you were going to see? *#@*#-ing Shakespeare?"

And, of course, the majority of people (and, based on the blockbuster performance of the previous "Jackass" movie, there will be many, many people) who willingly see this movie will be fans of the television series. They will, therefore, likely be far less horrified and, one assumes, less judgmental than a movie reviewer who is still wondering when she might be able to once again stomach solid food.

During the closing credits, one cast member/hapless stuntman turns to the camera and pleads, "Please, God, don't let there be a Jackass Three." I couldn't have said it better myself.

Britney, Kevin mingle as singles

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline aren't going to let a divorce squabble curb their fun out in public. Both were out on the town Wednesday night, showing off happy, relieved faces.
Spears, who has been photographed at several outings in New York this week, stopped by the Sony Music Studios at 1 a.m. Thursday sporting a black micro-mini dress and what appeared to be a wedding band.

Federline, 28, took the stage at Chicago's House of Blues to announce, "You know who's about to be a free man, right?" His left ring finger was bare.

On Tuesday, Spears, 24, filed for divorce after two years of marriage. Wednesday, Federline filed divorce papers, too. Both want legal custody of their sons, 13-month-old Sean Preston and 8-week-old Jayden James.

As Federline struggles with his musical aspirations — album sales are low and tickets to his shows are being given away — Spears is making clear career moves:

•She has been working in the studio since the Sept. 12 birth of son Jayden James.

•She has announced an album due next year.

•She was photographed Tuesday night ice skating at Rockefeller Center with Larry Rudolph, her former manager and the man responsible for launching the teen sensation's career. They parted ways in 2004, shortly before Spears and Federline were married.

"She's still incredibly young, and her peers from the teen pop days (Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake) have been mostly successful. I think she can easily make a record that people want to hear," says Craig Marks, editor of Blender magazine. "With less baggage and less jokes being made about her, she can concentrate on her music."

There are only two weeks left until the Marine Corps birthday, and the air station in Miramar doesn’t have a guest of honor for its ball. Ultimate Fighting Championship brawler Tito Ortiz was slated to fill that chair at the beginning of the month, but canceled on Thursday after air station officials asked him to un-invite his girlfriend and date for the event, porn star Jenna Jameson.

So let me get this straight ‘cause I’m bad at math: You’ve got the Marines – who fight people for a living. And then you have Tito Ortiz — who beats people into pulp for a living. So put the two of them together and you’d think it would be a match made in heaven. The only problem is that the Marines didn’t factor Tito’s smoking hot porn star girlfriend, Jenna Jameson, into the equation.

Pardon the pun, but I don’t blame Tito for pulling out. It just seems wrong, hypocritical, and rude of the Marines to make a stink over who he wants to bring as his date. They felt “she was not an individual or guest that [they] really felt was appropriate for the Marine Corps ball“? Huh? I’ll tell you what’s really inappropriate — and that’s denying a ballroom full of horny Marines — y’know, the guys who risk their asses to protect us — the chance to meet the friggin’ Julia Roberts of porn!
